As a Lifestyle Photographer I am a sucker for a good love story, especially one that involves unique circumstances & mends hearts that were once broken. This couple did not disappoint at all! In fact our time spent together was full of laughter, tears & moments that took my breath away! Their love story is one that is built on a firm, Christ centered foundation & so pure.
Scott & Boudhsalinh have known each other for 7 years & met through church. Boudhsalinh had previously been married, but has been a single mom for the last 21 years. Scott was previously married, but lost his wife 2 years ago. Both broken in different ways, their faith & trust in God never wavered. In September 2018 they connected at a Choir Retreat & a bigger plan was revealed. They were engaged the following February & are getting married at Juliette Chapel in Dahlonega, GA.
I met them several months ago while shooting another wedding. They were touring the venue & much like fate, we struck up a conversation & they booked their wedding with me that evening! When planning their engagement session they wanted something different than any other session I had done before. Scott had a close friend tell him of a “secret” waterfall tucked deep into the Dahlonega woods. Now this is where the laughter came in as when discussing the location, Scott didn’t have an address & insisted that we meet to ride together. When leaving the house, my husband asked where I was going. My response was, “We are meeting at Starbucks & then we’re going to a waterfall somewhere.” Needless to say he was a little uneasy, but I assured him that I was safe & if I heard banjos I would run!! We all laughed about it as we were headed up a very small secluded path that can only be accessed by hiking, ATV’s or 4x4 vehicles. But man was it worth it!!
This gorgeous couple climbed to the waterfall & their chemistry ignited right before the camera. The way they look at each other & embrace is like nothing I have ever seen before. You can feel the connection they share & how much they adore one another. While capturing them, Scott told me that they were saving their first kiss for their wedding day. My heart instantly melted! Though they are in love, they are limiting how often they say it until they are married. Their love is so raw & unique.
But the most amazing part of the day was the moment I noticed a small lavender butterfly flying around Scott’s head as he leaned down to kiss Boudhsalinh’s hand. (I’m so upset because I didn’t capture it in this very moment). No one noticed until I told them & immediately Scott & Rachel, Scott’s daughter, broke down in tears.
Scott told me that they always associated his late wife with butterflies & one landed on his daughter on her wedding day. The butterfly followed all three around as we walked down from the waterfall, fluttering around Scott & Boudhsalinh, as well as landing on Rachel’s head. It was an amazing sight to see their embraces, emotions & be apart of a moment of peace for all three of them. You can tell that though she is no longer with them, her presence is there & she is showering her blessing upon this new season in life & their beautiful children.
The rest of the session was perfection. Their happiness is captured in every image & it is so deserved by all of them! I am also in love with the details of their wedding day. In lieu of a unity ceremony, they are incorporating a Foot Washing Ceremony (I’m not crying, you are)! It’s one of the most beautiful acts of the bible where Jesus, in a humble act of service, washed the feet of his disciples to show his devotion as a leader & to serve his followers. This is such a beautiful way to start a marriage.
Their love story reminds me of the song Beautiful Things by Gungor & I couldn’t get this song out of my head while shooting their session!!
"Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4
Scott & Boudhsalinh…I wish nothing but a life full of happiness & bliss! I pray that each day is better than the day before & that you always see the joy in each others eyes. It is very apparent that a hedge of protection has been placed around your future marriage & something much bigger is in store for you both!
I am so excited to capture your big day next month!!
